Board of Directors

 BARBARA THOMSON  - Board Member 

 Barbara has over 40 years of experience with the cities of Minneapolis and Plymouth, U of M Planning, Northwest Area  Consultants, Midwest Planning, National Biocentric and the Metropolitan Council. She brings to the board a variety of  perspectives, good overall knowledge of the region, and a substantial experience with the SLUC program development and  execution. She has been a member since 1989, and a board member since 1998. Barbara served as president from 2007-  2011. She developed the Great Places Initiative concept and currently serves as the committee chair. 

 NENE MATEY-KEKE - Board Member 

 Nene is the broker/owner of RNR Realty International. He has more than 16 years of experience in real estate and  development, construction and financial investment. He has held positions as a real estate agent, project manager for a  midsize real estate developer, lead abatement general contractor, and a financial planner/stock broker for two of the  largest financial institutions in the industry. Nene serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota REALTORS and was  appointed as the State Director t the National Association of REALTORS. He holds numerous committee memberships at  his local and state real estate associations, including Vice Chair of the Global business Council for the Mpls Assoc of  REALTORS, as well as past Chair of the Diversity Committee for Minnesota. 

 KAREN BARTON - Board Member

 Karen currently serves as the Community Development Director for the City of St. Louis Park, leading and managing the  divisions of Planning, Housing and Economic Development. Karen has over 25 years of experience in local government in a  variety of capacities, having previously worked for the cities of Brooklyn Center, Crystal, Arden Hills and Richfield, as well  as Hennepin and Anoka Counties. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota College of  Architecture in Housing Design. Karen is a founding member and past president of the Minnesota Association of Housing  Code Officials and is a certified housing inspector. 

 DAVE PATTBERG - Board Member 

 Dave has served as the land acquisition and finance manager for Centra Homes, the preeminent residential land  redeveloper in the Twin Cities north metro. They partner with cities, municipalities and private landowners to build  affordable, sustainable new communities, residential land redevelopments in the Twin Cities north metro. In that role  Dave holds supervisory and personal accountability for new business development accounting, , IT and project  management. His passion is identifying underperforming real estate assets and converting them into successful housing  solutions by working in collaboration with municipalities, private land owners, civil engineers and other stakeholders. 

 RACHEL JUBA - Board Member 

 Rachel has been the Community Development Director for the City of Hugo since 2018. She started her career in  municipal planning in 2006 and has held multiple planning positions with the City of Hugo. Rachel graduated from St.  Cloud State University, with a four year degree in Community Development with Urban Studies. With a combined 13  years of experience in municipal planning and government, Rachel's responsibilities encompass a variety of areas such  as: environmental, economic development and planning. 

 DAVID ARBIT - Board Member 

 David is the Director of Research and Economics at the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS. He holds a Masters in  Housing and Economic Development, and has over 12 years of housing research experience. David holds undergraduate  degrees in Urban Geography and International Political Science. He has spent time in the public, private as well as the  non-profit, university and consulting sectors. Aside from research and data, David enjoys cycling, alpine skiing, camping  and cooking. 

 MICHAEL LARSON - Board Member

 Michael Larson, AICP CTP, is a Senior Planner and Sector Representative in Local Planning Assistance at the Metropolitan  Council. Mike works with 13 communities including Minneapolis and those along the METRO Green Line Extension. He  helped developed the Local Planning Handbook and materials for the PlanIt Training Program. Mike has over twenty  years of planning experiencing in both the public and private sectors, including the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin  County, URS (now AECOM), and Resource Strategies Corporation. He is a graduate of the Master of Urban & Regional  Planning Program at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. His previous experience includes comprehensive planning,  neighborhood/station area planning, transit corridor alternatives analysis, environmental documentation, and regional l  long-range transportation plans.

TINA GOODROAD - Board Member

Tina has over 25 years’ experience working as a City Planner, Developer, Planning Consultant and for the past 5 years has served as the City Administrator/Development Director for the City of Dayton. Through various City Staff positions and consulting Tina has worked with communities of all sizes, both urban and rural, and can appreciate the varied perspectives on development issues. Working as a developer, Tina has gained greater appreciation of the viewpoint of planning issues from the developer perspective that has benefited her in all of her positions.

 Mark Houge - Board Member

Oversees development of multi-family, retail, and commercial space on a 100 acre mixed-use parcel Oversees development of 600,000 square feet of industrial space on 100 acres of property. Manages team responsible for the preservation and maintenance of a 900 acre Conservation Area Resident Real Estate Broker responsible for sale of company property. Member of the Board of Directors for the North Oaks Home Owners Association, President of Rapp Farm Home Owners Association, President of Villas of Wilkinson Lake Home Owners Association, and President of Three Oaks Home Owners Association 

 SOREN MATTICK - President

 Soren M. Mattick is a shareholder with Campbell Knutson and practices in the areas of general municipal, land  use,  litigation, labor and employment, and real estate. Soren graduated in 1994 from Luther College, majoring in  Biology. In  1997 Soren received his law degree from Hamline University Law School. Soren is the attorney for the  cities of Big Lake,  Lindstrom, North St. Paul, Orono, St. Louis Park, Zimmerman, as well as Stillwater Township.  He handles general matters  for all of the firms municipal clients. Soren has also been retained by several  communities to serve as a hearing officer for  administrative citations regarding violations of the city code. In  addition, Soren has lectured at Government Training S  Services Seminars on land use issues for planners and city  clerks. 

 JULIE FARNHAM - Vice President

 AICP, is a Senior Planner with the City of Bloomington where she has worked on a variety of long-range and current  planning projects.  She managed the 2040 update to Bloomington’s comprehensive plan and coordinated preparation of  the City’s three district plans: South Loop District, Normandale Lake District, and Penn American District.  She was a  member of Bloomington’s core team charged with developing the Plan for Creative Placemaking in the South Loop.  Ms.  Farnham’s urban planning career spans over 30 years, working in both the public and private sectors.  Ms. Farnham holds  a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning  from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

 KENDRA LINDAHL - Secretary 

 Kendra has more than 20 years of planning and development experience. At Landform Professional Services, her work  focuses on serving the needs of public sector clients. She also provides project management and entitlement for a wide  variety of residential, office and retail commercial projects. This client mix allows her to be creative and successful in  managing the increasingly complex development process. Prior to joining Landform in 2001, Kendra worked as a staff  planner for the cities of Plymouth and Elk River. 

 LAUREN GROUWS - Treasurer 

 Lauren is a Land Development Manager at M/I Homes where she is involved with all phases of land development  and construction including, but not limited to acquisitions, due diligence, entitlements, permitting, contracting  and construction management. Prior to entering the residential sector at M/I Homes, Lauren worked for a  national commercial development as an Engineering Manager. She managed all things engineering related for  projects around the United States and Canada. Lauren is a licensed professional engineer in Washington and  Minnesota. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engeneering. 

PAUL ROBINSON - Past President 

 Paul has a Master's Degree in public administration and spent 10 years working in the public sector, most recently  as the City Administrator of the City of Media. Since working in the private sector Paul has spent the past 15 years  with Bancor Group as their Development Manager VP. In that role Paul has been responsible for all aspects of  developing land primarily single family residential projects ranging in size from 20 to over 1,000 units. This  includes land acquisition, entitlement, planning, budgeting, creating and maintaining proformas, construction  management, managing homeowner's associations, marketing and sales. Paul believes SLUC is one of the most  important groups in the Twin Cities for linking together the private and public sectors.
